Emma Howland was a laundrist who worked in Evanston. She was an active member of the Julia Gaston Club and served as its President.
Serving as President of the Julia Gaston Club, Emma Howland was dedicated to the organization of black women in the early 20th century. Howland was also an active member of the Illinois Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, as well as an active agent for change in her home ward, the Fifth Ward.
