Theresa “Tea” Rew Long was the second woman to serve as alderman in Evanston and first female alderman of the 1st Ward. She served from 1957-1962. Long was also an active curler and was head of the U.S. Women’s Curling Association from 1963-64. Her curling club was based in Glenview and they were called the Glenview Witches.
Long was born and raised in Evanston and was a member of the Rew family, a long time Evanston family. Long was involved in many organizations: the U.S. Women’s Curling Association, where she also served as Vice President and President (1963-64); League of Women Voters of Evanston; Woman’s Republican Club of Evanston; President of the First Ward Non-Partisan Civic Association, 1957; Trustee of Evanston Public Library; Evanston History Center; First Presbyterian Church; Junior League of Evanston.
