Suffrage Anniversary – August 2020 and Beyond!

Be sure to visit our event page to learn more about all the many things planned for August – and into the fall – as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. A group of community partners, led by the EWHP, has assembled a whole series of events for you to connect to the story. Enjoy them all!

  • August 10 – 7 pm – Proclamation at Evanston City Council – Evanston League of Women Voters
  • August 17 – 4-6 pm – WTTW program with clip from American Experience: The Vote and panelists sharing the Illinois suffrage story – Evanston Women’s History Project (EWHP). More here.
  • August 18-26 – Do-It-Yourself Suffrage March – EWHP and Frances Willard House Museum (FWHM). More here.
  • August 25, 6-7 pm – Voting Rights Symposium hosted by the Woman’s Club of Evanston (WCE) in partnership with the IL Holocaust Museum – online. More here.
  • August 26 – Evanston Women and the Fight for the Vote exhibit at Evanston History Center (EHC) 
    • 10 am – Facebook live exhibit tour
    • 12-4 pm – exhibit open, reservations required
    • Rightfully Hers – National Archives popup exhibit on view
  • Suffrage Sundays – video premiers from the Frances Willard House Museum (FWHM) 
  • September 17 – 6-8 pm – Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers Book Launch with Martha S. Jones. Hosted by FWHM, NU History Dept, Hull House Museum – online. More here.
  • October 27 – 7 pm – Evanston Women and the Fight for the Vote – Curator Lori Osborne will give a talk based on her research for the exhibit. Hosted by EHC and EWHP.
