On the Same Terms: 150 Years of Women at Northwestern

Northwestern University Woman’s College, ca. 1890.

Marking the 150th anniversary of women’s education at Northwestern University, this exhibition uses documents, images, and artifacts from the University Archives to examine the 1869 decision to admit women students. The story of Evanston women and their community leadership really has its start with Northwestern founding the university and then becoming co-educational. In addition, Evanstonian Frances Willard played a significant role in the story as president of the Evanston College for Ladies and as Northwestern’s first Dean of Women.

The exhibit, in the 2nd and 3rd floor lobbies of Northwestern’s Deering Library, will run to the end of June 2020. It is open during the Library’s normal hours. For more information (or to arrange a tour) contact [email protected] or see https://tinyurl.com/y8sd9g98
