About

The Evanston Women’s History Project (EWHP) is a three-year collaborative community effort begun in 2007 to document and celebrate women and women’s organizations that have made significant contributions to Evanston history.

The project focuses on three areas of work — increasing knowledge, building leadership, and growing Evanston as a tourist destination.  In these areas, key products will include: a research database of Evanston women, a thematic historic district organized around women’s history sites, women’s history month curriculum for local schools, girls leadership program materials, and tourism materials (including a web site, maps and tours) and a new women’s history exhibit at the Evanston History Center.

The project is generously supported by partnering organizations and individual donors to the Evanston Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls. Additional funding is provided by First Bank and Trust, and the Kiwanis Club of Evanston.

Project Partners include Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Delta Chi Omega Chapter, the Evanston Community Foundation, the Evanston History Center, the Evanston Public Library, the Frances Willard Historical Association, the League of Women Voters, Northwestern University, Planned Parenthood of Illinois, Shorefront, the Woman’s Club of Evanston, the McGaw YMCA and the YWCA Evanston/North Shore.

The EWHP offices are located at the Evanston History Center, 225 Greenwood Street, Evanston, Illinois 60201. The project can be reached by phone at (847) 475-3410 or by email at ewhp@evanstonhistorycenter.org.
